What the barbershop came to us with

A barbershop in Tashkent set three specific goals: hold position one or two in Google search, be present on Google Maps, and keep the cost per conversion under $3.

A local business with bookings is a rare case where advertising works almost directly. Someone looks for a barbershop nearby and books. The difficulty is that the radius is small and the budget small to match. Mistakes cost impressions rather than money: on a small budget there is nothing left to fix them with.

What the work involved

We connected analytics, so bookings could be told apart from calls asking where the shop is.

We studied the audience and competitors in that district, not the city as a whole.

We built the offers and adapted the copy for a bilingual audience.

We added a presence on Google Maps. For a local business this is not an add-on but half the result: many people search for a barbershop nearby inside Maps and never reach the ordinary results page.

After that we ran and optimised the campaigns regularly, watching which queries produced bookings and removing those that brought clicks from other parts of the city.

What sits behind the numbers

On a budget of $383 the campaigns delivered 178,007 impressions and 3,984 clicks at $0.10 each. The price per action came out at $2.06 against a target of no more than $3.

That is a small budget even for one location. It shows the main property of local advertising: it needs an accurate radius, not scale.

Who this format suits and where its limit is

Measurement deserves a note. In a local service some enquiries arrive as calls, some as messages, and some people walk in after seeing the listing. Count only website forms and the advertising looks worse than it is.

The scheme suits a business with physical locations people visit in person: a barbershop, a salon, a clinic, a garage. The limiting factor is not money but the number of people inside the radius. Once the district is covered, extra budget buys people who will not travel to you.

That is also why these figures cannot be moved onto your own business. Cost per action depends on the district, the competition inside it, the average order value and how quickly enquiries get answered. Something else transfers: for a local business a Google Maps listing usually does more than a bigger ad budget. It is free, and for "near me" searches it appears before the ads.
